About CMHC

The Junior League of Morristown (JLM) focuses on issues affecting lives of children and families.  Our mission includes promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities.  Children Making Healthy Choices (CMHC) is a committee made up of 11 members of the JLM.  CMHC focuses on educating children and their families and the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Specifically, we work to encourage and educate children and families on daily exercise and healthy eating habits and how to achieve both even with a busy schedule and on a tight budget.

The Interfaith Food Pantry (IFP) in Morris Plains continues to be our primary partner for CMHC nutrition education programs.  The IFP is a non-denominational, non-profit organization that provides food and groceries to eligible Morris County residents.

Working in partnership with IFP, CMHC has developed a series of cooking workshops designed to educate IFP families about the importance of healthy eating.  Approximately 20-24 participants assist in the preparation of two or 3 healthy, economical, and easy-to-prepare recipes.  The culmination of the event is everyone sitting down together family style to enjoy the meal we have prepared. Participants go home with leftovers, recipes and several ingredients needed to prepare the recipe at home.

This year CMHC is proud to add 2 new partners; Daytop in Mendham and Neighborhood House in Morristown.  Also new, we are excited to be offering several Wednesday evening programs focusing on topics such as “healthy lunch box” and “after school snack” ideas.  For more information on our programs please contact: CMHC Committee at jlm@jlmnj.org.
