Our Sustainers

Picture at our Annual Fall Sustainer Luncheon, held on September 22, 2017 at the Madison Hotel.  We celebrated Heidi Gammon, JLM's 2017 Sustaining Star Award receipient.

The definition of sustain is: to maintain; to keep alive; to support; to subsist; to nourish. And that’s just what JLM Sustainers do for our League. For many League members, transitioning from Active to Sustainer status marks not the end of their commitment to their League and the community they serve, but rather a new beginning.

We always remember the women who came before us, who put many things in motion that allow us to make the impact we do today. When we want to know what’s been done before or to ensure we don’t reinvent the wheel, when we need advice on best practices, or we want the history of a project or fundraiser, we just ask a Sustainer.

If you have any questions about Sustainer Activities or are interested in getting involved, please email sustainer@jlmnj.org.

The Junior League of Morristown currently has almost 150 Sustaining Members, many of whom remain actively involved in League work. They serve as mentors and advisors to Active Members, participate on Active committees, help staff League projects, and engage in League fundraising. Sustainers are required to pay an annual dues of $118 for coming year by March 1st, except for those who have attained the status of Emeritus or reached the age of 80. Sustainers are encouraged to attend all General Membership Meetings and JLM functions.

League Transfers Welcome:

The JLM welcomes all League members who have met the Sustainer requirements from their former League, and welcomes Sustainers transferring from other Leagues. The transfer process is as follows:

  • Member must contact her current league to start the process by requesting a letter of transfer.
  • The letter of transfer must include previous leagues and corresponding years of membership.
  • Outstanding debts to the former League must be satisfied to be in good standing, this includes unpaid dues and transfer fees required by their former League.
  • A check made payable to JLM in the amount of $118 should be sent to the attention of:

Junior League of Morristown
Attn: Corresponding Secretary
45 S Park Place #215
Morristown, NJ 07960

Once the paper work is complete, the Corresponding Secretary will notify the Sustainer VP who will be happy to contact you and get you involved.

If you have any questions, please email our Sustainer VP at sustainer@jlmnj.org.

Sustainer Activities:

Although the JLM does not have a formal sustainer committee, we do offer a number of activities throughout the year that sustainers can enjoy and feel connected:

  • Annual Fall Luncheon, typically held in late September or early October of each year.  The event spotlights the recipient of the JLM’s Sustaining Star Award nominated by the Past Presidents of the Junior League of Morristown. The JLM Board also attends and provides an overview of the JLM’s current projects and fundraising events planned throughout the year.
  • The Sustainer Book Group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month from September to May.
  • Sustainers are welcomed to attend General Membership Meetings, held each month.  Social time and light refreshments begin at 7:00 PM followed by a business meeting and program at 7:00 PM. Details about meetings and upcoming events are communicated through an All Member e-blast.
  • Sustainer Spring Cocktail Party, held and hosted by the Sustainers in April or May of each year is a fun way for the Sustainers to enjoy an evening with their significant others.
  • Lunch with the Authors is a fundraiser founded by the Sustainers and is open to all League members and the general public. The luncheon raises funds for the JLM Scholarship Program and is held on a Friday in early May and features presentations from three nationally acclaimed authors, a fantastic basket raffle, book sales and signing.
  • Other Sustainer activities may be added throughout the year. New ideas are always welcome!
